US violinist Elli Choi has been named the winner of the 2016 World Monaco Music Masters Competition and receives the Prince Rainier III Prize, worth €30,000.
Held annually in Monte Carlo since 1989, the contest is open exclusively to finalists of international competitions, and each year is dedicated to one of three disciplines - violin, piano and voice.
Winner of the 2015 Wieniawski Lipinski International Competition and the 11th Young Virtuoso Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria, Choi is a student of Ida Kavafian on The Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, and has been managed by the Zakhar Bron Akademie, Switzerland since 2013. She was also a semi-finalist at the 2016 Menuhin Competition in London.
This year's Monaco Competition jury comprised president Maxim Vengerov, Rene Croesi, Patrice Fontanarosa, Zakhar Bron, Jean-Marie Fournier and Boris Brott.
