Introducing Norman Lebrecht
The outspoken cultural commentator joins The Strad for a new monthly opinion piece. Join in the debate here
In the first of his monthly columns for The Strad, published exclusively in the magazine, the controversial cultural commentator Norman Lebrecht reveals his fascination with the string world and asks you for your questions and comments.
'A pianist sits down and the notes are waiting to be played, pretty maids all in a row. Wind and brass flutter their fingers over fixed valves and holes and the sounds come out, pre-ordained. Conductors? Don't get me started. A string player, poor soul, creates every note out of nothing.'
‘These are parlous times for players. Whether you are a soloist, ensemble member, teacher or student, you have much to fret about. Feel free to ask me what’s really going on.’
