The Calidore Quartet won the grand prize and the senior string
division gold medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music
Competition in South Bend, Indiana. The quartet, whose players are
students at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, received $7,500 for
the grand prize, and $3,000 for the gold medal.
Silver medal in the senior string division went to the Aeolus
Quartet, whose members study at the Butler School of Music,
University of Texas at Austin, and the Cleveland Institute of
Music. The Persinger Quartet, another Colburn School ensemble, won
the bronze medal.
In the 18-and-under junior string division, the Polaris Quartet,
from the Starling Program at the University of Cincinnati College
Conservatory of Music, took first prize. Second prize went to the
Milo Quartet of the Community Music School of Webster University,
St Louis, Missouri. The Tropical Trio, from Boston's New England
Conservatory, took third prize.
