Clara-Jumi Kang has won the gold medal at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. The German–Korean violinist was awarded the top prize of $30,000 after her final-round performance of the Beethoven Concerto. Kang, 23, is a student of Nam Yun Kim at the Korean National University of the Arts, having previously studied with Zakhar Bron and Dorothy DeLay.
South Korean violinist Soyoung Yoon, 25, won the silver medal and $15,000. The bronze medal, and $10,000, went to Benjamin Beilman, 20, from the US. A full report from the competition will appear in the December issue of The Strad.
