The competition, held every four years, was won by South Korean violinist Jinjoo Cho
Following Saturday’s announcement of the main prize winners at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis – with the Gold Medal going to South Korean artist Jinjoo Cho – winners of the Special Awards have also been named as follows:
Best performance of a Bach work: Jinjoo Cho
Best performances of the Paganini Caprices: 1st Nancy Zhou; 2nd Ayana Tsuji; 3rd Jinjoo Cho
Best performance of an encore work: Suyeon Kang
Best performance of a Mozart sonata: Ji Young Lim
Best performance of a Beethoven sonata: Dami Kim
Best performance of Ellen Taaffe Zwilich's Fantasy for Solo Violin: Tessa Lark (pictured)
Best performance of an Ysaÿe sonata: Tessa Lark
Best performance of a violin-piano sonata other than Beethoven from the Semi-Finals: Yoo Jin Jang
Best performance of a Classical Finals concerto: Dami Kim
Best Performance of a Finals Romantic or Post-Romantic concerto: Jinjoo Cho
Jinjoo Cho took the competition’s first place, worth $30,000, following her performance of Korngold’s Violin Concerto in the final. The 26-year-old student of Jaime Laredo also receives career management for the next four years as well as the four-year loan of the 1683 ‘Gingold’ Stradivarius. Second prize and $15,000 went to US violinist Tessa Lark, 25, while third prize went to 19-year-old South Korean Ji Young Lim.
