Johnson String Instruments and Carriage House Violins merge

Monday, 02 December 2013

Two US violin shops based in Massachusetts, Johnson String Instruments and Carriage House Violins, have announced that they are to merge.

The new company, Carriage House Violins of Johnson String instrument, will operate from the current Carriage House Violins shop premises at Newton Upper Falls. Carriage House Violins, founded by Christopher Reuning, will handle all instrument sales while Johnson String Instrument, located in nearby Newton Falls, will add its managerial and customer service infrastructure to the new company and continue its own rental programme.

Adam Johnson of Johnson String Instruments said: ‘Johnson String Instruments has a larger and more mature infrastructure to better support a large clientele. Christopher Reuning felt that Johnson String Instruments could do a better job at managing Carriage House Violins, and that combining the two companies would give him more time to focus on his archival and conservancy work.’

Christopher Reuning said he will relinquish his role as owner of Carriage House Violins in order to focus his attention on his main business, Reuning & Son Violins, based in Boston.
