New string appointments at London’s Royal Academy of Music

Dominic Seldis, Giovanni Guzzo and Richard Ireland to join in 2014

Wednesday, 19 February 2014

The Royal Academy of Music in London has announced the appointments of three new strings professors for 2014.

Double bassist Dominic Seldis and violinists Giovanni Guzzo and Richard Ireland will join the Academy this year: Ireland with immediate effect, Guzzo and Seldis in September.

Ireland is already a chamber music mentor for the Posnanski Quartet Scheme training programme at the Royal Academy. He will now join the violin teaching staff, with a responsibility for chamber music. He previously taught both disciplines at the Royal Northern College of Music and was a former professor of chamber music at the Royal College of Music.

Seldis is already a guest professor at the Academy and will now join as a regular professor. He is principal double bass of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Guzzo is principal guest leader of the Budapest Festival Orchestra and leader of the Manchester Camerata.
