The head of the Croatian branch of the European String Teachers Association reveals who he admires the most

Oistrakh had a beautiful, passionate sound and a fantastic sense of form

One of my heroes is David Oistrakh. His recording of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto made me want to learn the violin. My father had it on a record and I heard it for the first time when I was five years old – it is still one of my favourite recordings. Oistrakh had a beautiful passionate sound, perfect intonation and a fantastic sense of form.

I also greatly admire my former teacher, Dora Schwarzberg. She heavily influenced my musical thinking. Her style is full of emotion and passion, and her sound imaginative and nuanced. She often has unusual musical ideas and always challenges and pushes herself to find new solutions. She is an inspiration.
