Violist Honggang Li is a founding member of the Shanghai Quartet. Li first studied the violin with his parents at age seven. Li attended the Central Conservatory of Music and later, Shanghai Conservatory where he co-founded the Shanghai Quartet with his brother Weigang Li during his senior year.
Li previously served as faculty at Bard Conservatory and as an Artist-in-Residence at Montclair State University. He has been a guest professor of Shanghai and Beijing Central Conservatory for the past two decades. Li has been the guest principle violist of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra since 2008.
