As first violinist of the Shanghai Quartet since 1983, Weigang Li has performed 3000 concerts in 35 countries and recorded 35 albums. Mr. Li was featured in the 1980 Oscar winning documentary film From Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China.
Born into a family of well-known musicians in Shanghai, Li began studying violin at the age of 5 and attended Shanghai Conservatory, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Northern Illinois University and Juilliard. Li previously served as faculty at Montclair State University and Bard Conservatory of Music. He also holds the title of guest concert-master of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
