Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti has received an MBE in the New Year Honours list. She was honoured for services to music and to charity. Benedetti has worked with organisations such as Sistema Scotland and the Nordoff Robbins music therapy charity, and has been an outspoken supporter of music education.
Elsewhere on the honours list, music college director and long-time cello teacher Derek Aviss received an OBE. Aviss is the former executive director and joint principal of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. His previous roles at Trinity College of Music include head of strings and deputy principal. He was given the honour for services to higher and music education.
