Jennifer Higdon has won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Music for her Violin Concerto. The work was written for Hilary Hahn, who gave the premiere with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in February 2009. The Brooklyn-born Higdon, who teaches composition at Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music, won a Grammy earlier this year for her Percussion Concerto. Fred Lerdahl's String Quartet no.3, which the Daedalus Quartet premiered in Cleveland in December 2009, was a finalist in the Pulitzer music category.
