23-year-old Calum Stevenson finished his £10,000 commission as his prize for winning Sky Arts television programme Portrait Artist of the Year
A new portrait of acclaimed Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti will be on display at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh.
Calum Stevenson, from Bonnybridge, Scotland, received the title of Portrait Artist of the Year 2021 after winning the Sky Arts television competition. For his prize, he received the opportunity to paint a £10,000 commission of the violinist.
Stevenson graduated from Dundee University’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2019, and has a masters degree from Glasgow School of Art.
The 2021 edition of Artist of the Year was broadcast from October to December this year. Hosted by Stephen Mangan and Joan Bakewell, amateur and professional artists from around the UK are challenged to produce landscapes and portraits of famous sitters through several rounds for the opportunity to progress to the final, filmed at the National Portrait Gallery. The contestants are judged by Kate Bryan, Kathleen Soriano and Tai-Shan Schierenberg.
