A member of the orchestra since 2005, Aurelia Souvignet-Kowalski assumes the new role
The Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France has announced the appointment of Aurelia Souvignet-Kowalski as its first solo viola.
Souvignet-Kowalski first became a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France in 2005, having previously served as principal viola of the Auvergne National Orchestra and co-soloist with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
The Lyon-native started on the violin at the Lyon Suzuki Institute and Lyon Conservatory, before switching to viola. She then went on to study viola at the CNSMD Lyon with Jean-Philippe Vasseur and Fabrice Lamarre, followed by further study in Austria at the University of Vienna.
The 2024-25 season for the orchestra includes ongoing collaborations with conductors such as Myung-Whun Chung (honorary music director), Barbara Hannigan (first guest artist), Lahav Shani, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Daniel Harding, John Eliot Gardiner, Leonidas Kavakos, Pablo Heras-Casado, George Benjamin, Leonardo García Alarcon, Tarmo Peltokoski, among others.
Soloists include violinists Joshua Bell, Isabelle Faust, Vilde Frang and Hilary Hahn; and cellists Truls Mørk and Nicolas Alstaedt.
