Top young string players Angela Chan, Matthew Hakkarainen, Brian Isaacs and Sara Scanlon will enjoy intensive performance, career development and community engagement opportunities in Florida
Florida’s Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach (CMSPB) has announced its inaugural cohort of its Rising Artists programme. Four emerging string players will take place in a week-long residency from 5 to 12 January 2025, which provides intensive performance, career development, and community engagement opportunities.
The rising artists will have the chance to rehearse and perform alongside established leaders in the chamber music field, including violinist and director Arnaud Sussmann, and cellist and 2025 guest co-director Edward Arron.
The players selected for the 2025 cohort are:
- Violinist Angela Chan - laureate of the Hanover Joseph Joachim Violin Competition, graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and artist in residence at Belgium’s Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
- Violinist Matthew Hakkarainen - a Palm Beach county native, prizewinner at Premio Rodolfo Lipizer Violin Competition and the MTNA National Competition, graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School and current Rebanks Fellow at the Glenn Gould School.
- Violist Brian Isaacs - member of the Berlin Philharmonic Karajan Academy, graduate of Yale University, currently mentored by Tabea Zimmermann and featured at Verbier and Marlboro festivals.
- Cellist Sara Scanlon - graduate of the Juilliard School and studied historical performance practice, playing on a rare 18th-century cello previously owned by American cellist Eleanor Aller.
’The Rising Artists programme is an incredible opportunity for young musicians to immerse themselves in a rigorous and inspiring environment,’ said CMSPB artistic director Arnaud Sussmann.
’Participants will not only refine their craft through collaborative music-making but also gain invaluable insights into career development and community engagement, essential components for success in today’s rapidly evolving classical music world.’
