The Luxembourgish violinist joins the roster for worldwide general management
Harrison Parrott has announced the addition of violinist Alena Baeva to its roster for worldwide general management.
Baeva enjoys an international performance career, working with orchestras including New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln and Göteborgs Symfoniker.
She is regularly collaborates with leading conductors, including Gustavo Gimeno, Paavo Järvi, Marek Janowski, Vladimir Jurowski, Tomáš Netopil and Riccardo Minasi. Baeva also has a long-standing relationship with the Orchestra of the XVIII Century performing on period instruments, most recently touring Portugal with Dinis Sousa.
Baeva’s vast repertoire of over 50 violin concertos spans Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, through to Barber, Shostakovich and Stravinsky. She is also a champion of lesser-known concertos, including Bacewicz, Karaev, Karłowicz, and Silvestrov.
As a chamber musician, she has worked with artists including Yuri Bashmet, Daishin Kashimoto, Misha Maisky, Jean-Guihen Queyras and the Belcea Quartet. Her regular recital partner is Vadym Kholodenko, and their album Fantasy, featuring works by Schubert, Schumann, Stravinsky and Messiaen, was released on Alpha Classics earlier this year.
Born in Kyrgyzstan with Slavic-Tatar ancestry, Baeva took her first violin lessons at the age of five under Olga Danilova in Kazakhstan before studying with Eduard Grach in Russia. She also took lessons with Mstislav Rostropovich, Boris Garlitsky, and Shlomo Mintz, and took part in the Seiji Ozawa International Academy Switzerland, focused on string quartet repertoire. Naturalised Luxembourgish, Baeva has resided in Luxembourg since 2010.
Baeva plays on the ’ex-William Kroll’ Guarneri ‘del Gesù’ violin of 1738 – on a generous loan from an anonymous patron, with the assistance of J&A Beares.
