US violinist Anne Akiko Meyers has withdrawn from her scheduled performances with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) due to the wildfires currently raging across her hometown of Los Angeles. Meyers was set to play the Samuel Barber Violin Concerto with the orchestra on 10 and 11 January. The concerts will still take place as scheduled, with violinist Rachel Barton Pine stepping in to perform the concerto.

‘Anne Akiko Meyers, her family, and all those impacted by the devastating wildfires will remain in our thoughts,’ the CSO published on its website.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic has also announced the postponement and cancellation of its concerts through the weekend. A message from music and artistic director Gustavo Dudamel was shared by the orchestra on its social media:

‘Our hearts are with all the members of our community who are impacted by the fires, and our immense gratitude goes out to all the first responders who are tirelessly working to protect us. Please stay safe.’
