A man in San Antonio, Texas, who found a violin among some trash
by the side of a road, later discovered that it was a 1922 Giuseppe
Pedrazzini worth $35,000. The instrument was appraised by Peter
Shaw of Houston dealers Amati Violin Shop for an episode of the PBS
TV show Antiques Roadshow. The programme was recorded in
Corpus Christi, Texas, on 4 August 2012, and was broadcast on
Monday 7 January.
The man who found the violin said that he originally thought he
could use it for parts to repair an instrument that belonged to his
wife. But his wife later decided to get it appraised, and was
initially offered $1,000 for the instrument. Shaw valued it at
$35,000 but said it could be worth $50,000 after it was cleaned and
restored.
