Take a look at the premiere performance of Joshua Bornfield’s new work Houses of Peace. First performed on 5 March 2022, it features Amit Peled as the cello soloist and the Handel Choir of Baltimore, conducted by Brian Bartoldus.
The work is based on the Catalan Folk tune Song of the Birds, made famous by Catalan cellist Pablo Casals, who played it throughout his life as a cry for peace, including at the UN General Assembly in 1971.
Both Bornfield and Peled serve on the faculty of the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Bornfield directs the War Memorial Arts Initiative, an arts advocacy programme supported by Baltimore City’s Department of General Services.
