LA Phil principal violist Teng Li plays the viola Beethoven used between the ages of about 16 and 22 when he was in the court orchestra in Bonn before his move to Vienna.
The instrument, on a Stainer model, is thought to have been made in Vienna by Sebastian Dallinger around 1780. It is part of he ‘BTHVN on Tour’ exhibition, a lead-up to Beethoven’s 250th birthday in 2020, featuring key items from the Beethoven-Haus Bonn museum.
The exhition is at Walt Disney Concert Hall until 26 May, alongside a series of Beethoven concerts by the LA Phil. More info at laphil.com/beethoven
