Calling all lovers of lutherie and ASMR - check out this video of Andrew Carruthers, illustrating the sights and sounds of violin making. The video was shot over 17 days and shows the earliest stages of violin making, right up to the final product, played by Carruthers himself.
’For me this video is a like a very personal snapshot of my life,’ says Carruthers. ’It’s the sights and sounds that I see whenever I make an instrument.’
Created and edited by Justin Liddell and Definition Films, the film was recently entered into a video-short competition, where it won a gold medal.
Carruthers featured in The Strad’s March 2023 issue, sharing his Covid-19 pandemic project, ‘Off-beat Violins’ - a synthesis of art, music and the forms of the natural world.
