Violinists Leonidas Kavakos and Alina Ibragimova feature on the shortlist for this year's Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards, which are given for outstanding live classical music making in the UK. Kavakos and Ibragimova join pianist Stephen Hough in the instrumental category while the Schubert Ensemble and the Takács Quartet head up the chamber music and song category.
Three string concertos are shortlisted for the large-scale composition award: Diana Burrell's Concerto for Violin with Singer and Three Ensembles; Colin Matthews's Violin Concerto; and Kaija Saariaho's Notes on Light for cello and orchestra.
The RPS Music Awards will be presented in London on 11 May, and the awards ceremony will be broadcast the next day on BBC Radio 3.
