Following the publication of the article on the ‘Paderewski, Wendling’ violin in the September 2024 issue of The Strad, the editors asked me if I would agree to create a poster for this unique violin. At first I was quite surprised. Could a ‘composite’ violin – even one as spectacular as this – be taken as a benchmark instrument by the new generation of violin makers? On reflection, I decided that this would be a fantastic opportunity to help open up new perspectives in terms of reference criteria in contemporary violin making…
