Positive reflections

As an adult violin student I read Rachael Ridge’s online article (‘Do adult beginners learn differently from kids?’, bit.ly/3IDaW2L) with great interest. It touches on several familiar issues and I applaud her sensitivity to them. To her excellent insights about adult student backgrounds, I would further note that many adult students will have achieved competence or even excellence in other, often unrelated fields, and must be willing to embrace beginner status, with an associated lack of competence and the unsettling sense of insecurity and self-consciousness that it brings…
