Although this concerto is a well-known staple of the repertoire, violinists can still find opportunities to explore refreshing interpretations in this movement, says Paul Huang

A lot of young musicians learn this work quite early on in their violin studies. I think it’s because it’s one of the more Classical-oriented concertos with Romantic flair. Mendelssohn wrote this coming out of the tradition of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. It contains possibilities for young musicians to express themselves on their instruments, where they might otherwise feel restricted by earlier concertos…
