My Space: Corvus Kwok’s Hong Kong workshop

The luthier takes us on a tour of his shop in Kowloon, Hong Kong

I’ve been based at this workshop in the Diamond Hill district of East Kowloon, Hong Kong, since 2016. Before that, I was working at a tiny market stall in the same area, where I had to cram my workbench and tools into an area of less than four square metres. It wasn’t ideal, since it meant I couldn’t work on my instruments in the night time, and I also had shoppers looking in and watching me while I was working, so I soon found another space that was better for me. This one is in an industrial block and at 10 sq m it’s much more suited to my needs. The lighting in the market stall was also much too bright for me, whereas here I can easily control the light levels with my lamps…
