The pseudonymous ‘Ike’ calls for a rethink of the orchestral layout, and describes an instrument resembling the ‘Parramon’ tenor viola of 1932 (see In Focus, September 2022)

My attention has been directed to an article by Mr. A. C. Davison, A.M.I.C.E., on the mechanical limits of the viola, and also to several letters which have appeared on this subject. I do not wish to make any claims which I cannot substantiate, but I may say that for many years past I have been advocating a complete revolution in the stringed instruments of the orchestra…
