Find out more about the renowned strings, favoured for their power and dynamic range, as well as the iconic ‘green lady’ behind the name
Who doesn’t know it? The iconic green coloured portrait of a woman’s face is a renowned part of the PIRASTRO strings family for 25 years now. Known as the ’green lady,’ the Evah Pirazzi violin strings were released at Musikmesse Frankfurt in 2000. To this day they are still the favourite strings of many violinists around the world.
Let’s celebrate the 25th anniversary of Evah Pirazzi violin strings and read here what PIRASTRO Artists have to say:
’I love Pirastro’s [Evah Pirazzi] strings, and value immensely their dedication to their craft.’ - Nicola Benedetti
’Currently, I play on Evah Pirazzi as they have the strength, reliability and quality I need whatever it be orchestral, chamber or solo playing’ - Stephen Bryant
‘The sound of Evah Pirazzi strings is powerful and round’ - Augustin Hadelich
’Its broad spectrum and quality make Evah Pirazzi the loyal friends of my musical journey’ - Sergey Khachatryan
But who is Evah Pirazzi?
In fact, Eva Pirazzi is the daughter of Hermann Pirazzi, who took over the company from his father in 1919. Eva later followed in her father’s footsteps by running the business with her husband Volker Müller-Zierach starting in the early 1990s. Volker was not only a successful business partner to Eva; he is also an artist and his work is most prominently featured on the string envelope of Evah Pirazzi, which shows a drawing of his wife.
You might have noticed that the company leader’s name, Eva Pirazzi, is spelled without an ‘h’. So why is the string line spelled ‘Evah’? Eva and Volker’s two children, who are now the managing directors of Pirastro, are named Annette and Henning, and Eva’s parents were called Anny and Hermann. Together the family members’ initials form the acronym E-V-A-H, the last two letters standing either for their children or Eva’s parents.
The core material of Evah Pirazzi strings is an advanced synthetic material developed especially for us and based on materials also used in the aerospace industry. Evah Pirazzi violin strings are an excellent choice for every player looking for a complex sound with rich overtones that are based on a brilliant core tone. They have become a sort of gold standard due to their unmatched reliability, durability, and super-fast play-in time, and are favoured also for their outstanding playability and exceptional dynamic response. Even when used on a wide variety of instruments, they are always capable of bringing out focused articulation.
High profile soloists rely on these strings for their often-daily concert performances and appreciate their intensity and power, while advanced students swear by them because of their reliability during periods of exams and auditions. They are not only perfectly designed for solo violinists; they are also happily played by orchestral and chamber musicians, and are often recommended for electric violins or violins equipped with piezo-pickups. Evah Pirazzi strings for violin are available in three different gauges as well as with alternative E-Goldsteel or E-Platinum strings. They are also offered for fractional size violins (3/4-1/2 and 1/4-1/8) to serve the needs of advanced student violinists. An additional C-string provides a full set to 5-string violin players.
After the first introduction of the Evah Pirazzi strings for violin, the string line was completed with viola, cello and double bass strings.
