This month’s competition results, appointments and forthcoming contests

COMPETITION RESULTS

The Paddington Trio  has won first prize and £10,000 at the Royal Over-Seas League Competition for strings and piano ensemble. The trio comprises pianist Stephanie Tang, 27, violinist Tuulia Hero, 24, and cellist Patrick Moriarty, 24. They currently study on the advanced chamber music programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Other finalists included the Heathcliff Trio and the Brompton Quartet.

German cellist Lionel Martin, 18, has won first prize and €10,000 at the Ton & Erklärung cello competition in Hanover, Germany. Martin studies at the Zurich University of the Arts. Second prize and €5,000 went to German Joel Blido, 23, while third prize and €3,000 went to Moritz Huemer, 22, from Austria. All winners also receive concert engagements. Russian cellist Ivan Skanavi, 25, won €1,000 for his performance of Alfred Schnittke’s Cello Sonata no.1.
