Fullana joins the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia as artistic advisor with immediate effect
Spanish–American violinist Francisco Fullana has been appointed artistic advisor of the Chamber Orchestra of Philhadelphia. The post commences with immediate effect. His first performance with the orchestra will be in a conductorless concert in March featuring works by Glass, Piazzolla and Vivaldi.
Fullana’s already holds other leadership roles, including artistic director for the 210 June Festival at San Antonio’s Classical Music Institute, as well as artistic advisor of The Orchestra of San Antonio.
Originally from Mallorca, Fullana is a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, where he was taught by Manuel Guillén, as well as a graduate of the Juilliard School under Donald Weilerstein and Masao Kawasaki. He also holds an artist diploma from the USC Thornton School of Music, where he worked with Midori. In 2018, he received the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant. He is a first prize winner at the Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition and Johannes Brahms International Violin Competition.
As a soloist, Fullana has performed with the Bayerische Philharmonie, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, and the City of Birmingham, Charlotte, SWR Deutsche Philharmonie, Pacific and Buffalo Symphony Orchestras. He has also performed in a conductorless context with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, baroque ensemble Apollo’s Fire and the Metropolis Ensemble.
As a chamber musician, he has played at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Marlboro Music Festival, Perlman Music Program, the Da Camera Society, and the LaJolla, Moab, Music@Menlo, Mainly Mozart, Music in the Vineyards, and Newport music festivals. He has collaborated with artists such as Nobuko Imai, Mitsuko Uchida, and members of the Guarneri, Juilliard, Takács, and Cleveland quartets.
Fullana plays on the 1735 ‘Mary Portman, ex-Kreisler’ Guarneri ‘del Gesù’ violin, which is on loan from Clement and Karen Arrison through the Stradivari Society of Chicago.
