The cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras has announced he will visit Ukraine to share his music with the local people affected by the ongoing war.

He will give a concert with the Kyiv Camerata on 19 August, as well as visit wounded soldiers in the Recovery Ukraine rehabilitation centre and a clinic for children suffering from war trauma.

Travel into the country has been restricted since the Russian invasion in February 2022. However, Queyras says, ’Despite logistical complications, I felt an urgent need to express my solidarity in my own way with a nation that shows us incredible resilience in the face of adversity every day.

’It will be a great honour for me to stand alongside the Ukrainian people, even if only for a few days, as they fight for peace and freedom. May this concert convey a message of hope and solidarity, strengthening the bonds that unite us all.’

Queyras is calling for donations to Ukrainian charities. These include United24, a government organisation of Ukraine, UNBROKEN, a rehabilitation charity and Voices of Children, dedicated to Ukrainian children affected by the war.
