The respected violin professor was dismissed on Friday 8 November following investigations into reported misconduct
More than 30 pre-college and college violin students at New York’s prestigious Juilliard School have been left without a teacher after the sudden dismissal of faculty violin professor Li Lin.
Lin’s employment was terminated on Friday 8 November following investigations into reported misconduct, according to several sources. His faculty profile and biography has been removed from the Juilliard website.
Lin had been on Juilliard’s violin faculty since 2014. He also taught on the Perlman Music Program. Born in Guangzhou, China, Lin studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (where he also taught) and the Eastman School of Music.
A successful and respected teacher, his pupils included Stella Chen, Elli Choi and Kevin Zhu. In the past Itzhak Perlman described Lin’s teaching style as ‘beyond successful in giving his students the best skills they need’.
