The final rounds of the 6th International Karol Lipiński Violin Competition were held on 4 and 5 October 2024 at the CKK Jordanki Concert Hall in Toruń, Poland.

Six violinists progressed to the third and final stage, where three violinists on each day performed a concerto of their choice with the Toruń Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dainius Pavilionis.

First prize of €15,000 was awarded to Sunjae Ok of South Korea, who performed the Beethoven Violin Concerto. Ok is a graduate of the Berlin University of the Arts, where he studied with Tomasz Tomaszewski and in 2020 won second prize at the 7th International Chamber Music Competition in Bydgoszcz.

Second prize of €10,000 went to Lorenz Karls of Sweden, while third prize of €6,000 went to Wonbeen Chung of South Korea.

Distinction prizes of €2,000 were each awarded to the other three finalists, Carla Marrero Martínez, Hanna Pozorska and Sarah Jégou-Sageman. Marrero Martínez was also awarded the Youth Jury Prize, worth €1,500.

The winners will perform on Sunday 6 October at 5:00 PM (CET) at CKK Jordanki in Toruń for the official Winners Concert. The formal awarding of the main and special prizes will also take place at that time.

This year’s competition was chaired by Daniel Stabrawa and comprises Dainius Pavilionis, Rūta Lipinaitytė, Jakub Jakowicz and Philip A. Draganov.

The International Karol Lipiński Violin Competition was first held in 2007 and is usually held every three years, expanding to a corresponding violin festival from 2013. This year’s edition marks the return of the competition since 2019, which was won by Elias David Moncado.
