US-Mexican violinist Luis Angel Salazar Avila takes on the role
US-Mexican violinist Luis Angel Salazar Avila has been announced as the new concertmaster of the Orquesta de Baja California in Mexico. The orchestra was established in 1990, and has received two Latin GRAMMY nominations. It is primarily conducted by Armando Pesqueira.
Salazar Avila has performed as part of the Erie Philharmonic, the Great Falls Symphony, Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, and the Cascade Quartet. His career development has been aided by the National Alliance for Audition Support, an initiative led by the Sphinx Organization in collaboration with the League of American Orchestras, America’s Orchestral Academy, and the New World Symphony. He has studied at institutions including the DePaul University, Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Wichita State University, and Cleveland State University.
In announcing the appointment on its social media platforms, the Sphinx Organization congratulated Salazar Avila on his new role:
