The Buchet International Cello Competition was held from 11 to 12 November 2024 at the Conservatoire Royal de Mons, hosted by the Belgium Cello Society (BCS). From 16 initial candidates, six cellists were selected to perform a recital with piano accompaniment in the second round event.

27-year-old US cellist Annie Jacobs-Perkins won first prize ‘Prix Buchet’ of €3,000, as well as a J.P. Bernard engraved cello bow, worth €2,200 and a GEWA case. Second prize ’Prix Delen Private Bank’ of €2,000 went to 18-year-old French cellist Maxime Grizard, while third prize ’Prix Amis de la BCS’ of €1,000 went to 24-year-old Youbien Lee from South Korea.

The three prize winners also received an invitation to perform in the Laureates Concert at the 2024 Brussels Cello Festival, which will be held on Saturday 16 November in Flagey, Studio 1 at 11:00am.

Additionally, the prize winners received string sets from sponsors Pirastro, Jargar and Larsen, as well as a cello bow rehair from Atelier Flagey - archetier Victor Bernard, a cello sound consultation and adjustment package from Atelier Catherine Janssens and a cello maintenance package from Atelier Flagey - luthier Joanne Van Bosterhaut.

The competition jury was chaired by Han Bin Yoon, artistic director of the Belgium Cello Society, and comprised Roel Dieltiens, Anne Gastinel, Marie Hallynck, Frans Helmerson, Judith Van Eeckhout, Ulrich Hauschild and Veerle Simoens.
