Two associate principal roles and three section positions have been filled for the upcoming season

The Seattle Symphony will welcome five new violinists and violists in the 2024-25 season, two of which will occupy associate principal positions. These are Cameron Daly as associate principal second violin, Katie Liu as associate principal viola, Jacqueline Audas and Ji Yeon Lee as section first violins, Wayne Lee as a temporary section first violin and Ursula Steele as section viola.

Violinist Cameron Daly holds a master’s degree from the Yale School of Music, where he studied with Wendy Sharp, Ani Kavafian and the Brentano Quartet. He was the former first violinist of the Callisto Quartet, and has previously held orchestral positions in the Naples Philharmonic and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Daly is an alum of institutes and festivals including Ravinia, Taos, Tanglewood and Aspen and has performed as a soloist with the Yale Symphony. He recently departed a residency at Yale University. 

Violist Katie Liu is an alum of both the Yale School of Music and the Colburn School of Music. She also learnt violin from Masao Kawasaki while at in Juilliard School’s pre-college division. She has competed in major viola competitions such as the Primrose Competition and the Hindemith International Viola Competition. Previous orchestral roles include principal violist of the American Youth Symphony and section violist at the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. 

Violinist Jacqueline Audas studied at John Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute and at the Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, and is the founder and artistic director of Classical C.A.R.M.A – Concerts Aiming to Raise Money and Awareness – a nonprofit initiative. An experienced soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, she has performed with ensembles including the Baltimore Symphony, the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players, and in the Aspen Music Festival.

Violinist Ji Yeon Lee made her debut with the Indianapolis Symphony at the age of 15, and went on to study at the Korea National University of Arts and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. She was previously the assistant principal second violin at the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra.

Violinist Wayne Lee is graduate of the Julliard School and performed as the second violinist of the Formosa Quartet for 12 years, and as the violinist of the Manhattan Piano Trio. He formerly taught on the music faculty for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Violist Ursula Steele studied at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and was a recipient of the Kuttner Quartet Scholarship. She has performed with ensembles including the Royal Swedish Opera and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

This year’s calendar pays tribute to some of these priceless treasures, including Yehudi Menuhin’s celebrated ‘Lord Wilton’ Guarneri, the Carlo Bergonzi once played by Fritz Kreisler, and four instruments by Antonio Stradivari.
