Twelve violinists will proceed to the competition’s second round

The International Karol Lipiński Violin Competition has announced the twelve violinists proceeding to the second stage of the competition. The first stage took place at the CKK Jordanki Concert Hall in Toruń, Poland, and comprised 24 violinists playing solo repertoire. The second stage will take place on 1 and 2 October. The semi-finalists are:

In the competition’s second stage, the participants will play a 40–45 minute recital with piano. The programme will include one Beethoven sonata from the following list: nos.1, 3, 6, 7, 8, or 10, as well as one of the following Karol Lipiński compositions: Polonaise no.1, Polonaise no.2, Polonaise no.3, Ronda all Polacca op.17, or Fantasia and Variations op.33. 

The players are competing for the €15,000 first prize, which will be awarded after the third and final stage of the competition on 4 and 5 October. Prizes also include a €10,000 second prize and €6,000 prize. The three other finalists will each receive €2,000. Prizes also include concert engagements, a loan of a fine Italian violin, the prize for the best performance of a Lipiński composition, an audience prize and a youth jury prize. 

The jury of the competition’s 6th edition comprises chair of the jury Daniel Stabrawa, Dainius Pavilionis, Jakub Jakowicz, Rūta Lipinaitytė and Philip A. Draganov.
