The 15 semi-finalists have been announced for the 2024 Oskar Nedbal International Viola Competition. Now in its sixth edition, the competition will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, from 3 to 6 October 2024.

Open to violists up to the age of 30, 82 violists from 33 countries applied for the first round, which was completed via video recording.

The 2024 semifinalists are (in alphabetical order):

6. Takumi Nozawa (Japan)

9. Alice Sinacori (Belgium)

10. Jasper Sitte (Germany)

11. Ayaka Taniguchi (Japan)

12. Julia Wawrowska (Poland)

13. Semin Yim (South Korea)

14. Zihan Zhang (China)

15. Siwei Zhu (China)

The second and third rounds of the competition will be held live in Prague. In the final round, violists will perform either the Stamitz or Hoffmeister viola concerto with the ensemble Barocco sempre giovane.

The prizes on offer for laureates include cash totalling CZK 115,000 (£4,000), a fine viola bow by Luboš Odlas, viola cases by GEWA, strings, rosins and Korfker Rest by Pirastro and paid concert opportunities.

The 2024 jury will comprise Tim Frederiksen (Denmark), Lena Eckels (Germany), Kristina Fialová (Czech Republic), Lars Anders Tomter (Norway) and Jan Pěruška (Czech Republic).
