The violin first rounds of the George Enescu International Competition took place from 7 to 9 September in the George Enescu Hall at the National University of Music Bucharest in Romania. After performances from 50 violinists, twelve were chosen to proceed to the second round.

The second round will take place on 11 and 12 September, also in the George Enescu Hall. The contestants will perform a recital of maximum 50 minutes including the imposed work, B.A.C.H. passacaglia for solo violin, by Vlad Maistorovici, a Beethoven violin sonata or Schubert’s Fantasy in C major, and one work for solo violin or with piano of the candidate’s choice.

The violinists will perform for the chance to play in the 14 September semi-final. The top prize is €15,000, and several special prizes will also be awarded.

The president of the jury is Dmitry Sitkovetsky. He is joined by Mihaela Martin, Liviu Prunaru, Silvia Marcovici, Shlomo Mintz, Boris Garlitsky and David Halen.
