Lamsma will perform in the radio series’ Friday concerts for the 2024–2025 season
Dutch media broadcaster AVROTROS has appointed Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma as the artist in residence for its Friday concert series for the 2024–2025 season. She will perform at the TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, the Netherlands, alongisde the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, conductors Stanislav Kochanovsky and Markus Stenz, and pianist Beatrice Rana.
Her repertoire will include the Korngold Violin Concerto, Piazolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, and the world premiere of a new violin concerto by Dutch composer Joey Roukens. Lamsma has described Roukens as ‘a composer who writes for the heart, not for the head’, emphasising that ’there is nothing better than working with a living composer’.
Lamsma studied in the UK at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey and London’s Royal Academy of Music, and was made a fellow of the academy in 2019. A sought-after soloist, she has performed with numerous orchestras including the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonics, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the London Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras.
‘There is so much beautiful music, and you only live once: I feel the urge to have a varied repertoire,’ said Lamsma. ‘Hope to see you at one of the concerts!’
Lamsma’s AVROTROS Friday concert series will be broadcast live by NPO Klassiek.
