Echoes of the Ages shines a light on Icelandic violin maker Hans Jóhannsson. He speaks about how he got into violin making, including his training at the Newark School of Violin Making, as well as his career, in which he dedicated his craft to new instruments. The film features performances by musicians on instruments that he has made.
In 2023, a festival of the same name was dedicated to the luthier’s work, featuring 27 instruments made by Jóhannsson in a performance of Strauss’s Metamorphosen, as well as two new works by Maria Huld Markan and Ulfur Hansson.
The documentary was directed by Brian FitzGibbon.
