A Wedding, or What We Unlearned from Descartes is the first single released from cellist Seth Parker Woods’ upcoming album Difficult Grace.
The music video features footage from the world premiere of Difficult Grace at 92NY in November 2022.
The work features Woods in the triple role of cellist, narrator/guide, and movement artist. Woods performs music by Ted Hearne, as well as text by poet Kemi Alabi. The text for the poem can be viewed here.
The visual artwork is by Jacob Lawrence, Barbara Earl Thomas, Zoë McLean, and Freida Abtan. Featured in the video is dancer/choreographer choreographer and dancer Roderick George, with sound design by Christopher Botta; and lighting and visual design by Thomas Dunn.
Difficult Grace is out on Cedille Records on 14 April.
