British violinist Leia Zhu, aged 8, has been named the youngest ever winner of the International Competition ‘Young Virtuosos’ in Sophia, Bulgaria. The competition's 2015 edition included violin, viola, cello and percussion categories, each divided into four age groups.
Zhu won her violin category (up to the age of 11) with a performance of Wieniawski's Concerto no. 2, Vladigerov's Fairy Tale and Manuel de Falla's Spanish Dance.
Zhu is currently studying with Professor Itzhak Rashkovsky and is a regular participant in Zakhar Bron's violin masterclasses in Switzerland.
