In this video new to YouTube, violinist Maxim Vengerov and pianist Polina Osetinskaya perform Beethoven’s Violin Sonata no.9 ‘Kreutzer’. The performance was filmed on 15 November 2022 at Sala Verdi Milano.
Although Kreutzer gives the work’s nickname, the violinist had never played the piece. The sonata was premiered by Beethoven himself on the piano, and George Bridgetower on the violin part. The duo sightread the piece at the unusually early time of 8 o’clock in the morning of 24 May 1803, with Bridgetower reading the violin part over Beethoven’s shoulder.
