Volinist Darragh Morgan and cellist Timothy Gill perform Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello in the middle of the night in a former cardboard factory in Dalston, East London.
Directed by Jonathan Berman, the video ’lets the audience into a surreal, nocturnal dreamscape of Ravel’s love of wind-up, mechanical toys.’ The music was recorded in complete takes to create a feeling of freshness akin to live performance.
Entitled ’Rêves de Jeux Mécaniques’, the performance is one of four programmes in ’Found Spaces’, a series that spans Bach, Messiaen, Stravinsky, Satie and Ravel. The series ’highlights the versatility of classical musicians and presents visually exciting performances that are digital for an artistic reason: not just because concert halls are shut.’
