Emily Sun performs John Williams’s Theme from Schindler’s List, along with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and conductor Benjamin Northey.

The work will feature on Sun’s upcoming album Film Fantasia. Out on 4 October, the album will also feature violin concertos by Elena Kats-Chernin and Korngold. Sun spoke about the cinematic-themed album for The Strad’s September 2024 Session Report and how she needed to adapt her sound to the Hollywood style by watching films and listening to soundtracks.

‘I was trying to emulate the timbre of the sound – rich and almost swooning. It’s impossible not to be influenced by it. I certainly used it as inspiration, whether or not my interpretation is aligned with that in the end.’

Sun performs on a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, nicknamed ‘The Adelaide’ crafted in Milan in 1753-57. She became custodian of the violin in December 2023, courtesy of UKARIA.
