Violinist Yevgeny Kutik plays a moving solo arrangement of ‘Going Home’ the negro spiritual made famous in Dvořák’s Symphony no.9 ‘From the New World’.
Kutik told The Strad: ’Dvořák’s ”Going Home” from the New World Symphony has always resonated with me—a melody filled with nostalgia and the universal ache for a place we call home, something I’ve often reflected on as an immigrant.
’Wanting to distill its essence to its most intimate and vulnerable form, I asked Lev Zhurbin to create a solo violin arrangement for me, leaving behind the large orchestra and grand hall. In this solitary voice, I hope the piece reveals a new depth of personal longing within this beloved work.’
‘Going Home’ is released as a single and video recording on 11 April 2025.
