Violinist Siân Philipps claims that a stalker stole her identity
online, sent emails in her name and began squatting in a room under
her flat. Philipps, who made her debut with the Philharmonia
Orchestra in 2004, said she was seeing an American man for five
weeks before breaking off the relationship when he proposed.
She told the Evening Standard that shortly afterwards he
started showing up at her flat in Vienna, and sending emails to her
family and friends claiming to be her. She got a restraining order
on him after the police apparently found him squatting in a utility
room under her flat. She claims he also set up a malicious blog in
her name, making numerous allegations. Now back in England, she is
calling for it to be made easier to block malicious blogs. The
police are investigating her allegation of harassment.
