The British musician is also leader of the English Chamber Orchestra
Stephanie Gonley has been named the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s new concertmaster, beginning with performances at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival in August. The British violinist is also concertmaster of the English Chamber Orchestra, which she will continue to lead.
‘Stephanie has been a frequent guest leader with the SCO recently,’ said chief executive Roy McEwan. ‘She is a fantastic violinist and experienced leader who has built a superb rapport with us. Her versatility and musicality is just what we have been looking for. We are very excited to welcome Stephanie to the orchestra.’
Gonley is a professor of violin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she, herself, studied with David Takeno. For a number of years she was also first violinist of the Vellinger String Quartet, winners of the 1994 London International String Quartet Competition.
