Violinists Randall Goosby and Gareth Johnson have taken top honours at the Sphinx Competition for young Black and Latino string players. Goosby won the $5,000 first prize in the junior division. The 13-year-old from Bartlett, Tennessee, is a student of Philippe Quint. Johnson, 24, was awarded $10,000 and a CD recording with Naxos for winning the senior division. He studies with Elmar Oliveira and comes from Wellington, Florida.
